사단법인 대한당뇨병연합은 국제기구와의 협력과 지원을 주요 사업 목표의 하나로 명시하고 있습니다.

평소에도 선진국에 비해 당뇨병 관리가 어려운 튀르키예와 시리아의 1형 당뇨병 환자들은 이번 지진으로 인해 더 어려운 상황에 빠져 있습니다.

그동안 여러 기관에서 튀르키예와 시리아의 피해를 지원하기 위해 큰 노력을 하고 있었지만, 당뇨병 환자에게 직접적으로 지원되는 시스템은 전혀 없는 상황이기에 대한당뇨병연합이 직접 나서게 되었습니다.

현지의 당뇨병 환자 상황과 실태를 파악하고 지원 체계를 구성하느라 대한당뇨병연합은 다른 기관보다 조금 늦게 카카오 모금함을 개설하게 되었고, 지진에 관한 긴급 모금은 시간이 지난 관계로 적게는 수천만 원 많게는 수억 원에 이르는 카카오 기금도 안타깝지만 지원받지 못하는 상황이 되었습니다.

그러나 대한당뇨병연합은 여러분들의 참여를 시작으로 여러 기관에 동참을 의뢰하고 자체 예산을 부담하여 튀르키예 지역의 1형 당뇨병 환자에게 직접적인 지원을 만들어 내겠습니다. 이 글을 보고 계신 여러분들도 한마음으로 참여 해 주시기를 간절히 부탁드립니다.

튀르키예-시리아 1형 당뇨병 환자의 생명줄, 인슐린 그리고 필수치료 소모품, 그리고 당뇨병 교육!!

2023년 2월 6일 오전 1시 17분경(UTC), 튀르키예 남쪽에서 규모 7.8의 지진이 발생하였습니다.

이후 오전 10시 24분경(UTC)에 발생한 규모 7.5의 여진을 포함, 2월 21일 6.4의 지진, 2월 23일 6.8 지진 등 여러 차례 지진과 여진이 이어졌고, 2월 10일 기준 사망자가 2만 명을 넘어섰으며, 2월 19일 사망자는 최소 52,856명을 넘어서며, 상상을 초월한 고통속에 지내고 있습니다.

생사가 긴박한 재난 현장에서 생존하게 되더라도, 1형 당뇨병환자의 경우 인슐린 주사 투여와 혈당측정 등 관리체계가 무너지면 단 일주일도 생명을 유지할 수 없습니다.

누구나 긴박함을 확인할 수 있는 현장에 즉시 구조를 위해 노력해야 하듯이 이들도 현재 눈에 띄지 않을 뿐 사실상 생사의 위기에 놓인 긴박한 상황인 것은 동일하기에 즉각적인 지원이 필요합니다.

감사하게도 튀르키예-시리아 지역에 보편적인 긴급구호품 지원이 활발하게 이루어지는 가운데 당뇨병 환자라는 특정 대상을 위한 긴급구호품도 원활히 지원될 수 있도록 대한당뇨병연합과 함께해 주세요.

현재 국내 약 500여 기관 세계적으로 5,000여 기관 이상의 공익기관이 튀르키예-시리아 지진피해 난민돕기 모금운동이 진행되고 있습니다.

또한 국제당뇨병연맹(IDF)나 소아청소년 관련재단, 글로벌 인슐린제약사 등 당뇨병 관련기관에서도 튀르키예와 시리아의 구호를 위한 모금을 진행하고 있으나 그런 관계기관 조차 1형 당뇨병 환자나 청소년 당뇨병 환자를 위한 특성화된 지원체계를 구축하고 못하고 있는것이 현실입니다.

감사하게도 튀르키예와 시리아의 경우 1형 당뇨병 환자들에게 인슐린 공급이 쉽지 않은 상황이었는데요. 여러기관의 노력으로 다행히 인슐린 자체의 보급은 좋아진 편입니다. 그러나 오히려 인슐린을 투여하기 위한 각종 필수치료믈픔과 관리용품(인슐린투여용 레져버, 연속혈당측정기, 혈당측정시험지 등)은 구입하기도 어려운 상황이 되었다고 합니다.

튀르키예-시리아의 전체 1형 당뇨병 환자 모두를 도울수는 없지만 지진으로 어려움에 당황하고 있는 일부의 환자(특히 정소년 이하의 환자)라도 어느정도 안정적으로 치료체계를 수 있도록 국민소득 3만 5천달러 세계10위의 경제대국 대한민국에서 70여년전 한국전쟁에 참전했던 형재나라인 튀르키예와 한국전쟁처럼 내전으로 힘들어하는 시리아의 환자들에게 정성을 모아 지원할 수 있도록 함께해 주세요.

The lifeline, insulin and essential treatment supplies, as well as diabetes education, for type 1 diabetes patients in Turkey-Syria!

On February 6, 2023 at 1:17 a.m. (UTC), a magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred in southern Turkey. This was followed by several earthquakes and aftershocks, including a magnitude 7.5 aftershock on February 10 at 10:24 a.m. (UTC), a magnitude 6.4 earthquake on February 21, and a magnitude 6.8 earthquake on February 23. As of February 10, the death toll exceeded 20,000, and on February 19, the number of fatalities surpassed at least 52,856, with people enduring unimaginable suffering.

Even if one survives the urgent disaster, for type 1 diabetes patients, if the management system, such as insulin injection and blood glucose measurement, collapses, they cannot survive even for a week.

Just as everyone needs to make immediate efforts for rescue in urgent situations, these patients also need immediate support as they are in a life-threatening crisis, even though it may not be visible at present.

Fortunately, while universal emergency relief supplies are actively being provided in the Turkey-Syria region, specific emergency relief supplies for diabetes patients can also be supported smoothly with the Korean Diabetes Union.

Please support the lives of Type 1 diabetes patients in Turkey and Syria!!!

Currently, there are fundraising efforts underway to assist earthquake and refugee victims in Turkey and Syria, with the participation of around 500 Korea organizations and more than 5,000 global public institutions.

In addition, diabetes-related organizations such as the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), foundations for children and adolescents, and global insulin manufacturers are also raising funds for relief efforts in Turkey and Syria. However, even these organizations are unable to establish specialized support systems for Type 1 diabetes patients or adolescent diabetes patients.

Fortunately, efforts from various organizations have improved the supply of insulin to Type 1 diabetes patients in Turkey and Syria, where insulin was not easily accessible. However, it has become difficult to purchase various essential treatment supplies and management equipment (such as insulin pump reservoirs, continuous glucose monitoring devices, and blood glucose test strips) necessary for insulin administration.

While it may not be possible to help all Type 1 diabetes patients in Turkey and Syria, please join us in providing support with sincerity to patients who are struggling in the aftermath of the earthquake, especially those who are children or adolescents, so that they can have a stable treatment system. Let us come together to help patients in Syria, who are struggling with civil war like Korea did 70 years ago during the Korean War, and in Turkey, a fraternal nation that fought alongside Korea during the war, with a per capita income of $35,000 as a developed country.

Currently, 1,500 Type 1 diabetes children in the earthquake-stricken area of Turkey are waiting for urgent support!!!!

During the waiting period at Together Kakao, many changes have been made.

Firstly, insulin supply in the Turkish region has become smoother, and secondly, we were able to identify the necessary treatment devices and consumables other than insulin. Secondly, we have established a cooperative relationship by exchanging and holding meetings with the Diabetes Union for Children and Adolescents in the earthquake-stricken area of Turkey. According to the opinion of the collaborating organization, there are about 5,000 children and adolescent Type 1 diabetes patients distributed in Turkey, and 1,500 patients have been identified in the earthquake-stricken area. The support system for patients in this area is really lacking.

The priorities from collaborating organization are identify as below:

First - Treatment devices and consumables for administering insulin other than insulin, such as reservoirs and infusion sets for administrating the insulin using insulin pump.

Second - Systematic educational systems and medical personnel dispatch to provide diabetes education

Third - Continuous Glucose Monitoring systems or blood glucose test strips (in case of CGM system is not available)

They say that they need these things and especially long-term support for about a year for one person, not just a one-time donation to many people. Therefore, we will prepare for the Kakao fundraiser through the Korean Diabetes Union, and we will support all Type 1 diabetes patients in the Turkey-Syria region by using the KDU's own budget and additional fundraising to cover any shortages.
